Valentines Day Treats: Cookies on a stick

Valentines Cookies on a Stick. It may not be apparent yet to my readers but I do like making things on a stick and having them in a little bouquet in my living room or by more door for guests to snack on or take home with them at parties.  Yesterday we had some people over so I made some sugar ( and non pictured gingerbread) cookies on a stick to add to a bouquet of chocolate pops (post to come). Ingredients 1 1/2 cups butter, softened 2 cups white sugar 4 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 5 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt Food Colouring ( I use gel colouring to avoid adding extra moisture) a little goes a long way Directions 1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until smooth. 2. Beat in eggs and vanilla.  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. then stir into wet ingredients 4. knead dough together, divide into balls and colour as you would like 5. wrap balls wit...

Wine Cork Pen

I have a small collection of wine corks and am always thinking I kneed to do something with them but never quite seem to get around to doing anything with them so when I saw a pen over at  paper plate and plane  I knew I had to give it a try, especially since I had a bag of then pens that I got at the dollar store and have been meaning to do something with for a while One thing I would definitely suggest is a drill press if you have once to line up the holes at right angles to the bottom of the cork, it is quite hard to do with a hand held drill.

Easy Last Minute Guacamole Substitute

This may not look pretty but it sure tastes good yes it really does have a kinda brown look to it. This may not look pretty but it sure tastes good. My favourite thing to do when I don't have time to make home made guacamole is to take a half (or hole depending how hungry I am) and stir in a little of my favourite spicy salsa ( I use my home made salsa ). That is it you are ready for dipping enjoy,

Crochet Hat

Winterama Hat Well winterama was this weekend and late Wednesday I realized that the youngest one does not have a hat to wear.  So I went through my stash, searched for a couple of hat patterns that I liked, and altered and combined them to meet my needs.  I used an ear flap had found on the   bernat  website, but before I got to the earplaps I did a row of  3 double crochet in each single crochet and then a row of single crochet in each double crochet to create the ruffle then followed the instructions for the second earflap for the first and second earflap. Finally I created a little flower from the 1st 2 rows of the flower found at  action hero  ( I think this will be my new must use flower pattern)to add to the hat so that there was no question that she is a girl since she would be wearing her extra snowsuit that is green to match. here are the results. The finished hat with an unimpressed model. Close up of the f...

Toddler Snack and Drink Strap

Crafting out of Necessity My youngest daughter seems to always "need" or want to eat in the car and also has a bad habit of throwing her cups where I can not reach them. So last week I made a few straps to attach her snack cup and sippy to her car seat or stroller, now she or I can pull on the strap to bring her cup back up.

My Light Tent

In My last post I showed you a craft that was mad by my 3 year old daughter.  Today I wanted to show you what I used to take the picture of her ground hog. I took this picture as an after thought so you will have to mind my mess. It was a home made light tent,  the nice thing about this one is that it is collapsable so it does not take up much room and also the white background can be replace with different colours of  bristol board. Light tent all folded up with a the Bristol boards rolled up and sitting on top. The tutorial I used to make my first light tent can be found here . Unfortunately I only had one light back when this photo was taken ideally I would have 3 lights when using a light tent, or at least 2. The changes I made form the tutorial are listed below. 1 - I used foam core so that it was already white 2 - I made the sides and top as separate pieces so that they could be...
